Single sign on using active directory

The client

Mishcon de Reya LLP is a law firm with offices in London and Singapore. Founded in 1937, it currently employs more than 900 people with over 500 lawyers. It is regarded as forming part of the “Silver Circle” of leading UK law firms.

The problem

Mishcon de Reya has a large number of internal users who can access a variety of systems and applications which had their own set of unique login credentials for each user. This meant that each user had to remember a variety of usernames and passwords for each system that they needed to access which also increased the amount of support that the I.T. department was required to provide.

The solution

ProLegalTech was requested to develop a solution that would enable users to log in to their computer and manage these different systems and applications by recognising their log-in details using active directory which would then provide them with the relevant access and permissions.

The solution we developed, enabled Mishcon de Reya to automatically assign the correct permissions to each user based on their job title. This helped to ensure that each user only had the ability to manage the areas of the website to which they had the relevant permissions to do so.

Initially, this included the Mishcon intranet and various systems relating to the management of the website but has since been expanded to include other areas of the business.

This solution has helped to speed up the workflow for the I.T. department as they can now manage users in a single system and has reduced the amount of support required for password reset requests. It has also improved the efficiency for each user as they now only need to remember the single sign on to their computers, rather than different login details to a variety of different systems.

From a security aspect, this has also reduced the risk, as the login credentials are stored only once in a central location so that other systems do not have to store or have access to them.
